Brooklyn, from Room 6, brought her little chicken to visit Room 5.

School Olympics Parade

On Friday 12 August, we were to hold a School Olympics Sports Day. However, after a week of beautiful sunshine, the weather changed and it was too wet to hold the Sports!!  It was disappointing, but we did manage  to have  the School Olympics Parade before the rain arrived. Each class representing a country, marched around the school playground area.  It was a lot of fun with children dressed in their adopted country's colours, waving flags.

Room 5 children, representing Brazil, before the parade.

Waiting to march in the parade, alongside South Africa (Room 7/8).

Room 10 (China) Room 13 (USA) and Room 14 (Great Britain) waiting to march.

Crazy Hats

As part of our learning about recycling, we used old hats and other materials to make a 'Crazy Hat'. First we had to decide what sort hat we would make, where we might wear it, and then design/draw what it might look like. We had a lot of fun making our hats. We shared materials and helped each other. When we had finished, we went to show Rooms 6, 7 and 8. They thought our hats looked great.

Recycling and Rubbish

Room 5 has been learning about what we do to dispose of our waste. We have been talking about how lots of things can be recycled. We went out to look at the big truck that collects the rubbish and recycling. A machine lifts up the recycling bins to empty them. We also looked at how the glass is sorted into different colours.

Wala

This is the show we attended on Friday morning and it was absolutely fabulous!  Two young men from Ghana played drums for us and sang.  There was a very high level of student (and teacher) participation and we all really enjoyed ourselves!

U is for unicycle

Breon showed us how he could ride a unicycle.  Uni means one, so unicycle is a one-wheeled bike starting with our letter of the week.

Building Auckland City

During Exploration Time, three budding engineers designed and built a city! They were soon joined by classmates who helped them with some more building. They decided it was called 'Auckland City'. The children could name a number of places associated with Auckland City, plus a few  that they thought would be there!
Perhaps The Auckland City Council might be impressed with their 'Design and Build'!!

From this.....

to this...!

The children were very proud of their efforts.

Exploration Time in Room 5

Today we had Exploration Time as part of our morning programme. The children could choose equipment and activities to work with.

Joe, Alex and Liam wanted to build with the big blocks.

Manaia, Erin and Hunter counted and matched up the 'Little Shop' objects.

The Pirate Song was performed at assembly by Rooms 5 and 6, well done to you all!

Our second lesson in the Life Education Caravan reinforced the concepts of a balanced diet.
The children chose items from each food group to put in a lunch box.

Life Education Visit

Today, Room 5 went see Harold in the Life Education Caravan. We learnt about eating a balanced diet so that we eat lots of different foods. We matched up the foods to see what they do- some help make our bones and teeth strong, some help make our muscles grow, some help us to have lots of energy, and some help to keep us very healthy.
Carmen, the teacher and Harold the Giraffe taught us about how it is important to eat lots of different food. We liked visiting Harold.
