Maths Time

Children chose to do activities of their own choice after their maths lesson today. 

Some children chose to count and play on the Hundreds Boards.

Some children played the Shopping 'Match up' game.

Some children chose to count, sort and match objects.



Monarch Butterfly Excitement!

There was great excitement in the classroom when our first Monarch Butterfly emerged from its chrysalis. We have 3 more to come out and 2 hungry caterpillars left. It is a lot of fun to observe the changes.



Scooter Time

Children enjoy riding their scooters at morning interval and lunchtime.

Welcome to School

Bobby received his Welcome to School certificate at assembly from Mrs Duston.

It is great to have you in Room 5, The Busy Bees room!

Cricket!

Room 5 and 6 walked down to Craddock Park to see some of the cricket.  Buller was defending the 
Hawke Cup against North Otago.  We were able to sit on the seats and watch for a while. Luckily we had lots of sunscreen on, and our hats because it was very hot!  Go Buller!

Big Bubbles

Today we used a big bubble blower to make very big bubbles. We had lots of fun jumping to touch them. We liked the rainbow colours in the bubbles.






Bobby also had a turn at blowing little bubbles.

Fitness Time

The children in Room 5 like keeping fit. We have a fitness time every day.

Bubbles, Bubbles, Bubbles!

As part of our oral language and writing focus we read a big book called 'Bubbles!' Then we went outside and had fun blowing our bubbles.

Liam, Joe and Alex blew lots of bubbles.


Taya, Hunter, Isaiah, Erin and Jaxon blew some big bubbles.


Manaia could blow very big bubbles and she balanced one for a long time.


Tina helped Skyla blow lots of little bubbles.


Gianni was visiting and liked chasing the bubbles.



Stacey and baby Archie called into school and Archied LOVED the bubbles!

We had lots of fun blowing bubbles today.

Teachers in Room 5

There are two teachers in Room 5 this year. 
Mrs Robertson teaches from Monday to Thursday and Mrs Bradley teaches on Friday.

Puppy Visit

Mr Anderson, our school caretaker, called into Room 5 with his toy poodle, Becky and her puppy called Benny. Benny is very little and very cute! Some children wanted to take him home!
Thank you Mr Anderson for bringing them to visit Room 5.




Ella and the Freshwater Crayfish

After assembly, Ella, from Room 6 brought a freshwater crayfish into our room for us to see. She caught it in a creek.




New Entrants at Assembly

There are lots of children who have started at Westport South this week. Four children from Room 5 received a 'Welcome to School' Certificate from Mrs Duston, the Principal.









Buller Cricket at Assembly

Today the Captain of the Buller Cricket team, Troy Scanlon and some team-mates, (including Mr Adams from Westport South School) came to our first school assembly to show us the "Hawke Cup" which they won when they played against Canterbury Country last weekend. It is a very big, shiny cup!
Next weekend, Buller will defend the cup here in Westport, when they play North Otago. Go Buller!

Kittens in Room 5

Brooklyn from Room 6 brought her two kittens to visit us today. Her friend Ella came with her. One was a striped tabby and the other one was ginger. We liked seeing the kittens. They were cute.

Lunchtime at School


It was good to sit in the shade at lunchtime to eat our lunch.






Milk Truck

The big truck arrived with the school milk this morning. We went out to see some of it being unloaded. Thank you to Fonterra for providing our school with free milk each day.


New Entrants 2016
